Just curious since i don't do taxidermy, only skull cleaning, how much is the high cost of oil driving up or going to drive up your cost for doing a shoulder mount deer. Compare it to a year ago to what you expect when things get going good this fall. Not only how much is your cost going up but how much will you have to raise your prices to keep your same percent of net profit. Everything must be considered, not just the cost of the mannikin but the expected rising cost in shipping and all of your other supplies. Will be interesting to hear your replies. Wishing you all a great fall. Thanks....Skullery....Jeff

I'm guessing at this point, about 10%.It sounds like mannikin prices are going to rise abot 15%.
I was 550 for deer last year and 895. for regular elk, I am still not sure what to change if at all since my local competitors are so low priced and do good work. 450 on deer. They advertize heavily. They also pay "referal" kickbacks of 10 to 15 % and I do not. I got lots in anyway and I am still way behind but I also want to be fair to my client base. Many seasons start here next week; sheep, archery, etc. Yikes!
I look at my prices every 6 months or so and adjust them as I think they need it. I have gone up $20 on deer this year which is about half anticipated cost rise and half is a small raise I gave myself. UPS shipping costs will surely go up and suppliers have no choice but to go up as well. Hard to guess just how far the gas prices will go and now with hurricanes hammering our southern supply prices could get much worse.-Aaron H.
I have been tracking and I also had a conversation with another large scale taxidermist in my area. The cost for materials, supplies and transportation has gone up 30 to 32% over last year.
