Pronghorn hair is hollow and open on the ends. When blood is allowed to set on the hide for any length of time, it goes by osmosis up into the hair interior much like a pipette where it turns brown. Bleaching is often not an option as it would take heavy bleaching to even start to work on that stored blood residue.

I warn all my pronghorn hunters to take extreme care in keeping that hide out of the body fluids for that exact reason. It usually comes down to lazy and sloppy field care that could have simply eliminated the problem.
