I shot a 6x6 bull last week. The cape is in storage and I have the rack.
I placed the rack on the floor with the antlers pointing down, antlers on the floor, and measured 38 inchs to the base of the skull. My Wife thinks a shoulder mount will be too big for the wall. I am not concerned with the width but would like to know how high the cealing should be so that it will look ok. What is a rough guess of the mount's overall hight? How much should I add to the 38 inches? Is there a formula or recommended numbers to determine minimum wall height?
Thanks

take a space on the wall 48" wide (plus or minus, depending on how severe the turn is) and six feet from the bottom of the brisket to the top height of the antlers.......for a droop mount. An upright mount takes up the most wall space...you can add another 2 feet in height using this position.
I have a 6pt semi-sneak/bugle mount. Post your address and I can send you a picture and give you measurements later......
Why not look into getting a pedestal done. Depending on the base and pose you choose, it will be right around eye level with the viewer. Height shouldnt be a problem, but it will take up floorspace unlike a conventional wall mount-- and it will cost more.
Unless you have vaulted ceiling or 10ft walls the elk will probably be out of propportion with the room. I had a buddy in the service that dragged a huge 6x7 around with him. You should have seen that monster on his mobile home wall!
to the top of my antlers.....
Please send the picture and numbers.
Thanks
1. I have a 300 class bull in my finished basement..8 foot ceiling..it's a bugling pose with a roght turn... fits..but it would be nice if I had a taller wall.
2. If you have the space, consider a pedestal mout..and pin the antlers as well as the mount itself. I saw a net 404 bull mounted this way last week ...looks great and you can adjust the pedestal height. I plan to do that with the bull I shot this year.
