So I have a guy bring me in an antelope and wants to have a europeon mount done. I was unsure about how it would look, what do you think? Then I recall that I never learned how to do an antelope shoulder mount, Do I cape it like a deer? I remember something about having to pull the horn off the scull and scrape meat away thats under it, could someone please help me. Thanks.

on antelope i usually cut at the hair line at the horns and just come down the Y like on deer. then i just take the skull with horns and drop them in a bucket of water for about 2 weeks or so until the horns slide off the skull, now there is a skin type layer on the skull part where the horn was, on that i just make one cut from the skull up each horn (skull part) then peal it off. some ppl put them in the microwave to take the horn off the skull, others put in a plastic bag in the heat. my way you just drop them in and dont worry about them for a while.

I'll add a couple of things to your pronghorn list. There is an oil gland below the horn base on the sides of the face that HAS to be opened up and exposed to salting during your caping process. Go to the outside of the face and the gland will be where the dark hair patterns come together. It is very oily and musty on the outside but can't really be felt between the skin layers on the flesh side. I take a skife and start working thru the skin layer till I hit the oily gland and then make sure I expose it all to salting. I have found that most of them are about golf ball sized or larger. I also leave pronghorn cape tanning to the pros. That funky, hollow hair can be big time tricky. Good luck!
