Dermisted Beetle Specimen Tray?

Submitted by Randy Martin on 11/17/05 at 7:16 PM. ( rdmartin53@aol.com ) 65.19.234.25

I have run out of shoe box lids for specimens in my beetle box. Is there any intelligent life out there that might suggest an alternative? I am currently cleaning mostly Deer heads with a few Elk still trickling in.

Kind Regards, RM

But you could use other boxes such as stationary boxes, clothes boxes, even cereal boxes. With scizzors and cardboard almost any size box can be fabricated. I use electric tape or strapping tape for the bent edges and corners where the beetles would most likely chew through. Many museums make hardware cloth boxes of various sizes, though you would need a liner below to keep frass from filling up your dermestarium.

Now thats a great idea!

I went through the cubbard today to see what boxes I could use....endless supply. My wife raises/breeds parrots and has lots of scrap pieces of wire. She was kind enough to make me several different sizes of wire trays with wire handles today. They really look first class. Nothing like a first class Dermestarium! Those were great suggestions! THANKS!
