Jonas Bros. catalog features a Highland bull form that is paper.Having never worked with a paper form, was curious..Can a paper form be altered? Is it made with pulp like a mache? If you cut it down do you then use mache as you would two part foam to complete the alterations ?I dont need perfection here, this is for me to judge alone.I do however want to have a convincing piece in the end.

You need to fill it with foam. then is like most forms. I too have used some I bought from a retired taxidermist. I read here to foam it, then its like altering a foam form.

You will need to use mache to sculpt in the deatils. Then I give them a coating of polyester resin. I also use dextrine and build up the areas I altered with newpaper. I cannot find the red rosin paper after I used the last.

Check with yout local news paper and you can buy end runs of newsprint paper rolls. mine give them to me to carry off.

You may want to use a couple large althread rods for strength.

Its a good form

I have mounted on that form and its a good one; it fits well and does need alot of clay to make a really nice mount. It is laminated red rosin construction paper layered to about 1/4" to 1/2" thick. You do not have to fill it with anything although filling the muzzle area with foam will help you do a nice job with the nazzle passage. You also have to make a backboard, it has a head block in it, and paint the form with shellac. When I started taxidermy thats all we used or had besides fiberglas forms and we made them ourselves or ordered them from one of only a few companies world wide. Jonas being #one. Guess I am getting old.

Thanks,
