Attaching skull plate to hide screws

Submitted by Vic Trodella on 12/8/05 at 12:22 PM. ( victor@MaineArchitecture.com ) 207.5.225.20

Hi,

I am not a taxidermist, just a hunter who harvested a nice young bull elk and wants to mount the antlers to a maple plaque. I cut off the skull plate with the antlers attached and have skinned, cleaned and bleached it. So far it looks great. I would like some advice for attaching the plaque to the skull plate so the screws don't show. Will I damage the skull and will there be sufficient strength to hold the mount in place if I install screws through the back side of the plaque and then directly into the skull plate? Or do I need something more solid inside the skull plate to connect into?

Thanks,

Vic

Take a look at www.peekproducts.com and look at the Trophy Hangers. The ONLY way to go.............. in my humble opinion! :)

When you came on the site, you could have typed your question in that large white block entitled "What do you want to know" or click that orange SEARCH icon to the left. There's tons of methods, some simple, some cheap, some both.
