tuning steels

Stupid question, I have a dakota IV, the detail flesher it came with 2 tuning steels, one pointed the other one just looks like a piece of wire. well one broke so on my last order from McKenzie I ordered a set or so I though. It came with 1 steel instead of a set of 2, it doesn't have the pointed one that came with the flesher. I called McKenzie and they said that I got what I ordered? Since this one isn't pointed but flat on the tip do I just put the flat part on the blade and lift up to raise the lip? Or do I need to order what I originally had from Van Dykes?

Go to a welding shop or welding supplier and but some tungsten and make a set. Grinding a point onto one end.

Use a concrete nail

Take a short dowel, drill a hole and insert a concrete nail in it. To properly HONE a shaving machine blade, you lift the curl and then you flatten it. If you make sparks, you're applying too much pressure for honing.
