Best Way to Pack Fragile Deer Head for Move

What is the best way to pack an older deer head to move? This guy is starting to lose hair and his ears are so fragile, I'm afraid they might bust off in the move. We're moving to another state, not just across town. Any ideas?

Build a crate

Assuming there is wood in the back of the form, screw through the bottom of the crate, into the wood in the form. I use 2x2's to frame the crate, and cover with 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2" plywood or OSB. Put an extra 2x2 or 2 across the inside of the crate, screwed to the sides to further brace the antlers. Protect the antlers with cloth, so they don't rub on the wood. You could even wrap twine or strapping tape around the antlers and wood brace. I move mounts on a regular basis by truck and ocean going barge, and have yet to have any damage.(knock on wood)Don't put anything else in the crate, INCLUDING styrofoam peanuts!

I second what Crusty said

build a sturdy crate. Empty space around the mount is the best protection against damage.
