Odd elk size?

Submitted by AndyO on 1/14/06 at 12:14 PM. ( ajossola@yahoo.com )

Received a green elk cape without measurements. After first shaving I took measurements and got 12 1/4 eye to nose and 24 inch "B" measurement. The cape is long cut. Does that sound right? Apparently this was a 280 class ranch bull. I didn't stretch the cape to get the neck measurement. I positioned the face in a natural position and used calipers to get the eye to nose. Nothing I found in the catalogs come close to matching. Anyone run into something like this or could I be measuring wrong? Thanks.

Wrong way to measure Andy

Tan your hide first and THEN measure it. A green hide can stretch 7 ways to Sunday.

Good point

I was measuring it to get an idea what forms are available. Need to give it one more shave before I tan it. Hopefully the measurements will jive. Thanks.

I would.......

I would stretch the hell out of the neck after tanning fisrt and then measure it in a relaxed state, do this to the head and face as well. Good luck
