Smell?

Hi, I dry preserved a black bear, after skinning I hand washed it with a bit of washing detergent to get blood out. The mount is drieing now but has a smell that I want and need to get rid of. Any Ideas on what would get rid of it? thanks

you ain't goin to like this.

But you probably are stuck with it. Baking soda, Fabreze, Odo-ban, perfume are not going to do it. they will cover it up. But the first damp, rainy day. you are going to have a perfumed bear smell. Always, And I do Mean Always tan a bear hide.

And you're going to like that less, but it simply CANNOT BE DONE. You never remove enough grease and oils for that sucker not to stink. Next time, swallow your pride, skin it, flesh it, salt it, and sEND IT TO A TANNERY.
