I am doing my first removable antler on an elk. was wondering what size key stock is sufficient. is 3/8 fine or should i use 1/2. also, do i need square steel tubing for it to go in or is bondo plenty. i was going to drill up from the bottom. put keystock in then pour bondo around it and let it dry then pull keystock out. then cut antlers. good or bad. also what type of saw seems to work best for cutting off antler. i was going to use this for a competition and want the hide right up by the burrs.
Thanks,

Click that orange SEARCH icon in the left margin and type in the same title of this posting. In my opinion, you're WAY off base and there's some very detailed information in there.
IN the hole you drill. Then cut off the antlers. you will then have a square hole ot put a pin into. YOu can file the square pins ot fit tight into one side and slightly loose in the other so they will come apart. Just remember rust will form on regular steel and they will not be removable anylonger.
There are some really good ideas of mounting the fur up around the antler bases that wiull not shrink away too. Like George said, do some searching and you will find a lot of info on that.
I use epoxy glue and it works great. A little spray release on the removable bur and the glue will not stick to it. Enough glue and the skin around the bur will stay right where it is and not shrink away.
