goat smell

mounted my first catalina and it stinks - i rinsed in fabric softener and tumbled but it still smells - what's next

The "smell" you have is caused by your failure to remove the lanolin from the hide. I don't know that there's a big window of options available to you now except hosing the mount down and washing with a soap that will remove that lanolin, wash it a second time in a clothes softener, and then condition the hair before blow drying it with shop air and a bird blower of sorts. Sorry.

Try Knobloch's brand deodorizer sold through Research Mannikins. When I get goats back from a commercial tannery (dry tannned) they still smell like a goat and I rehydrate them in this and it works.
