I use Buckeye Supreme hide paste when mounting my deer. Can I accomplish the detailed muscle lines using this? I know there are alot of variables involved, but I have a hard time getting the full detail I want. What else can i do to gain more detail. Archives suggests using a lip tool to go over the lines. Anything else?

youll get more detail the second day
it takes a little elbow grease now
and dont push with something sharp youll cut or pull the hairs out
i mostly use my hands but i have a bunch of hand made tools
i use matched to certain anatomy on the face, mouth, nose etc.
the eyes expecially need to be put back in the correct shape the second day
i bag my heads and turn them up overnight
even with epo epoxy i can still get all the time and detail i need
stand back and look at everything
and have good reference
hope this helps

really thin. Pressing the detail in with your fingers. You can also define the muscle tones with a file or knife. BUT, look at a live deer, they don't look like they are on steroids! All the muscle and details are on the form but on a live deer the skin kind of "floats around" on that thin membrane. Check refernces and see how muck detail a live deer has.
do you ever do anthing to the actual form itself?
so basically all the detail on the forms (McKenzie) are just to give it the big musle look not detail?
....don,t use buckeye supreme if it is a DP mount(only tan)......The customers love the musle tone if it,s not over kill.....I use a heavy grain sandpaper(used for sanding floors wth belt sander)....I bought one piece like goes on the large sanders and I cut pieces off of it and have been useing the same sandpapper for years.......I enhance the musle tone on the form with the sandpaper....if needed......very short haired deers may not need enhanceing.....long northern deer wont show anyways so I dont bother......now if you are mounting a DP mount .....then whitelightning caulk is probly the best choice for hide paste.......use a damp rag and work in the musles after it is mounted ....if the cape is is good shape and no hairs are loose I,ll use my hand if not I,ll use a wet rag around my hand......GL ....TD
