how to replace broken elk antler

Hello, I have to replace on one side, part of the main beam and 5th and 6th point of a 350 class bull. The hunter said when he shot it it had fencewire wrapped up in its antlers and figured thats how he broke that part of the antlers off. I have used allthread before and apoxy sculpt, but never could get it textured right to match and the stain didn't stick to the epoxy sculpt very well after it dried. I beleive it was watco walnut stain. Is there a better way or easier way to do this to match it up and make the repair not noticeable? I want this to be undetectable when I am done, Thanks for any help, DeLoy.

is what I have used in the past with excellent results. I would get some good reference pics of elk antlers and study the texture. You also have another side to go off of. Take your time in rebuilding and stain to match. I did one simular to that and matched the color with oil base danish walnut. When you apply the stain, do it in coats and let it dry. Then come back and wipe with thinner very carefully to polish and highlight the repaired area. When everything dries, I take fine steel wool and polish the tips just alittle and go other the entire area to bring out highs and lows. Hope this helps and enjoy.
