Sand blasting forms

I have heard several people talk about light sand blasting for prepping forms. My question is who has experience doing this and what equipment is needed?

Thanks

I found some stuff in the archives but what style nozzle/head do you use?

I use a hand held blaster and it works good. It is a cheep self contained one peice model. It has a small container for the sand mounted on top of the gun and is gravity feed. I just use the cheepest sand blasting sand that I can find. I got the gun and the sand at a auto body supply store. Someplace like Harbor Freight may also have what you need.

You can buy a sand blaster at Sears for around $50. It is a syphon
type. Just stick the suction tube in a bucket of sandand start blasting.
Home Depot has graded sand, so get this type in a medium grit.
Works great

Silica

Whatever you do, don't use silica sand(the white stuff) Very very bad for your lungs. Even with a respirator, the dust it leaves for the wind to blow around is very nasty. Snap-on also makes a good little sand blaster.

i bought this sand blaster at amazon.om a couple of months ago based on a tip here at the forums. "Campbell Hausfeld AT1251 30 lb. Capacity Sandblaster" they cost about 40 bucks. the nozzle that comes with it works great. sand blasting is the way to go if you have a decent sized compresser, it saves a lot of time.

Nozzle?

I was told that there are different nozzles for getting different width spray patterns. I have sand blasted in the past and couldn't imagine using a narrow nozzle to do a form because you would only get a spray about a 1/4-1/2" wide. That would take forever to cover the entire area of a form. Is there a nozzle that is made to blast autobody panels?
