I would like some feedback from anyone who has gone into one of those pastures to shoot a hog. I just want one to put a head on the wall. If i wanted to kill a hog that just came from the auction barn i can do that at home. So yes i am looking for european hogs long hair long tusks. I did have the number for a guy out by knox, PA that said he guilds all of his hogs so they would also be good to eat but i cant seem to find that now. I would like to stay in Western PA or Eastern OH. Thanks,

we have wild boars runing in pa i have pic of them breeding i live in bedford pa
Might as well shoot one from an auction barn if you just want a head for the wall. These so called "hunting" preserves are a joke. They are an embarresment to most ethical hunters. Save your money.

Sorry bout the triple post
You know the beauty of this country? You don't have to do ANYTHING you don't want to do. If you don't like the idea, stay away from it, but be very careful of damning something just because YOU don't like it. I'd bet you eat ham from hogs that never were able to turn around in their pens, eat chicken from cages that never let their wings lift, or even eaten veal from a calf the never was able to stand by itself. It's just a matter of perception. Because YOU wouldn't do it doesn't make you're clean. You have been subsidizing it, regardless. At least this guy went out and didn't use a proxy to do his dirty work.
So much self righteous bullcrap. Most of us on this site hunt. How, why, what, where, when...who cares. The guy made it clear what he is looking for so unless your going to help him out keep your stupid comments to yourself. I spend alot of time in the woods and until this year had never even thought of going to a preserve. Well a few weeks ago some friends were going and since the hunting is done is MI, I decided to go. I was quitely apprehensive. Let me tell you we had a great time. I put on a ton of miles, spent two full days hunting with my bow. Say what you will but it was not easy, the terrain was tough and the animals were smart. And hey the best part about it is I got enough work to cover the cost of the trip and next years as well. The place is Forestmiesters.com, great people and reasonable prices, be prepared to work for it though. Good luck, I have some pics if interested email me. www.natures-reflection.com

I take a large group to The Wilderness every year and I get all of the mounts from the trip. My group went there about two weeks ago. His hogs for $550 I didn't think were very big. They were about 100-200 lbs. He had some really big hogs in a seperate area that were $750. They went from about 250-500 lbs. They were the russian hogs with the proper markings and nice tusks. The tusk are only important though if your doing a European mount. This will give you an idea what he has right now. The owner told me that it was tough for them to get hogs this year. The people at The Wilderness are great and you will have a positive experience. They are in Everett PA just outside of Breezewood. thewildernesspa.com
I have a great many clients that bring me work from there. Every one tells me it was like a real hunt. and that they never had the impression someone was letting the game out of a cage 200 yards down the trail. They saw game wandering freely through the preserve. which they tell me is somewhere around 1000 acres.
Mark, Although Joe's comment were totally uncalled for. They were his Opinions on the matter. they were presented in a concise factual manner with no Insult to Pooch.
Now, I am Not the type of fellow who seeks out conflict. But all to often lately. Those who oppose an Opinion here feel the appropriate way of doing so is by force. I did not agree with Joe. any more than you. However you have less right to tell Joe to "Keep your stupid comments to yourself" than he does to express them. You Begin your post with a comment "so Much self righteous bullcrap". then offer a pile of it too. We. if not as Fellow Sportsman, then as fellow Human Beings. Need to take a moment and think through what we are about to say. It will Not only make this site better. but the world overall. Many here should heed that advice.

I really appreciate all the input and i apologize for causing a ruckus on the forum. The thing is Joe I dont have enough time to go to florida to hunt the wild swamp hogs right now and i have never been to a preserve so i am going into this with an open mind. Maybe you should give things a chance. Thanks again everyone.
Maybe I came on a little strong. I shoulden't lump all these preserves together. I'm sure there are some out there that give a decent hunting experence. Sure there not for me and I should have worded my comments a little better. I never said or felt I was clean because I wouldn't go to one, and I'm not trying to be self-righteous. I think we all know the ones I'm talking about. They just give hunting and hunters a black eye. Sorry about being a little harsh with my comments Pooch. I hope you find a decent place to go to get your hog.
for the wilderness the owner will screw you every chance he gets he is also being checked out by the Game Commission
Back in October of 2004, I hunted my Russian Boar over at Ted Nugents place in Michigan, Sunrise Safari. I had a great time. With over 300 hundred acres to hunt on, I felt it was worth it. They have the European boars, long hair, long tusks. Mine is actually more European, but still is a Russian Boar. The one I got was a fixed one, not all of them are though. So, you are taking a chance of not getting one that is, if you want him for eating. Mine, I actually got him for a Head Shoulder mount on one of my Pedestals that I make for taxidermists. I wanted him for show and display for my business and to take to Taxidermy shows and events.
