Boar Cape Question

I have the head from a 680# boar to do. This hog did not look like your normal feral hog, more like a slightly smaller version of Hogzilla. The cape was wet tanned by Hog Heaven. I took numerous outside measurements before skinning. When altering the form, I plan to reduce the outside measurements by approx 3/4" (allowing 3/8" for the tanned skin thickness on each side). All of this is assuming the tanned caped will be close to the original size. Should I expect the tanned cape to be smaller? I have altered many mammal and whitetail forms but always from carcass measurements.

I'd take my mesurements from the finished tanned cape. After all that IS the real size you'll be dealing with no matter what his size was on the hoof. There's too much unknowns the other way.

Not the size

Hogger, it's not so much the size as it is the proportions. This hog is very unique in size and shape. Email me and I will send you pictures which will better describe what I'm talking about.

I know from talking with you on the phone that this is your first boar mount. You sure got the worst one to start with, but the measurements you got on the cape are the one's to use when alering the form.Start with the RB 530 by rick carter,it's a 12 x 42,then start pouring form.Your gonna need to add to the width and depth of the everything, including the muzzle. With the added muzzle size you will run into a problem with the jawset looking too small inside the mouth, you either leave it or alter the jawset to make it look right. This pig would have had a much larger jaw than the repro's you can buy.Your going to do a lot of test fitting.Call us tomorrow if you want,315-493-1405
