Hey Guys and Gals, I have been trying to figure out a price list for everything and was hoping someone would share theirs with me. I am just starting my part time(possibly full if I get the work)business, built me a very nice building for gallerey and shop, Ive done 9 deer $325, 3 pheasant $180, 1 coyote rug $375, 1 36" pike 7.00 inch, 1 gill & 2 crappie $115 w/driftwwod. I am currently working on a wolf rug/Flat skin no backing head in, I Charged $300. To Do, prairie chicken, 2 lifesize coons, 2 lifesize fox, 23" walleye, 2 european mounts w/plaque, and possibly turkeys coming! My pricing came from my teachers list and I think I should charge higher due to work involved, quality, overhead and all the other reasons. If anyone or everyone in michigan or surrounding areas would help it would be appreciated, Also how do you go about deposits, disclaimers, gaurantees, and turn aways? Thanks in advance, Mike

At the top of this page click on the "taxidermist" link then click on your state; most of the websites will have price lists.

How about this

Add up all materials used plus shipping cost. Then figure out your overhead expenses. Say your expenses are $3400.00 per month then divide by days out of the month you work(26), then divide by the hours per day(8) this will give you your overhead per hour. ($18.00)Determine how many hours needed to complete your mount. Multiply hours by your overhead per hour. If you choose to pay yourself a salary determine what you want yo be paid per hour or by the piece. Multiply this by hours needed to complete your mounts. You want to add more for your level of experience, don't cheat yourself. Remember that taxidermy is a luxury and not all people can afford it but be fair with your pricing. Finally you can add in your profit margin. This will be your selling price. OK so here it is again.

Cost of Materials + Shipping Cost
Overhead per Hour /$18.00
Labor (your Pay)
Profit Margin
= Selling price

Pheasant Standing Mount on Oak Base

Oak Habitat Base w/ habitat $20.00
Overhead * 3 hours ($18.00) $54.00

Profit Margin of 20% $36.75

You can adjust the figures so it meets your experience level and market but i would start out with this formula, don't copy cat prices from other taxidermist in your area get your own figures.OK so here it is again.

Mark I'm just a part timer doing it for fun and I never really sit down to figure it out cause my day job does that for me but that math is really cool. I do an estamate on cost and what I like for a labor cost and I tally that up, but man you got it down to the needle and thread cool as refried beens man. take care and awsome insight.
