Head Mount Question

Hi, I have a question pertaining to head mounts. I don't know much about taxidermy and wanted to know if it was possible to have an already completed Russian Boar head mount (with open mouth) changed to a closed mouth piece? Can that be done? Thanks.

Not really feasible John

It's like you buying a red car and then deciding that you'd rather have the same car, but now blue instead. Once a hide "forms" to a manikin, it tends to establish a "memory". If the adhesive use would allow the skin to soften back up by soaking in water, the mount COULD possibly be reaccomplished, but it is very unlikely that the hide would lose it's "memory" and be very difficult to rework. You have a better chance of just shooting another one and having it done the way you like instead. From my perspective as a taxidermist, it certainly would be much cheaper for you to do that.

Out of curiosity

John, why do you want it with the mouth closed?

Well, let me explain. I shot a nice Russian Boar in Germany back when I was stationed there and to be quit honest the more I study it the more I realize that there are flaws in the work. First, I had the mount done from the supposedly famous German Taxidermist Wolfgang Schenk. I honestly don't think he worked on it. It had to be an apprentice of his or something because the color inside the mouth looks orange and it looks like a bad clay job of some sort. A bad filling or something. I also noticed something else recently. The eyes are too wide open. All the pigs I've ever shot have more squinty eyes which indicates their poor eye sight. Does this make sense? Thanks.
