For the past 3 years I have totally mis-managed my dermestids during hot weather. This year I decided to try controlling the climate in the small building I house them in. I pruchased the smallest AC that Wal-Mart sells for $86.00. Yesterday my son and I installed it and WOW, there was an almost immediate behavior difference in the beetles. It has been so hot and humid here for the past week that they had stopped eating. They were cleaning a skull per day, but this slowed to a skull every 4 to 5 days. I think the AC will help in decreasing the humidity, which was terribly high. If this helps maintain the colony, it will be a very good investment. The average annual operating on this AC is $34.00. One skull annually would more than pay for that!
