I would like to know how somebody put a price on antlers.
I would like to be able to evaluate the value of antlers without having to go trough an appraiser.
Who is the authority (reference book)that regulates the market value. Like for example the blue book for cars.
If somebody wants to be an appraiser for big games trophies, how does it work? What kind of chart or criterias is he using to put a price?
Please if you don't know, could you refer me to somebody else?
Thank you very much for sharing your time and knowledge, I really appreciate it.

It's pretty obvious that you thought you had a gold mine and someone's not telling you all you got was the shaft. Antlers actually have little value on an open market. They're sold by the pound to a strange and weird segment of society who think they may hold the power of Viagra (if they do, it would still be much cheaper to buy Viagra). In reality, antlers hold intrinsic value. The buyer will determine the worth and an "appraiser" will only tell you how much he might pay if he wanted to own them. Of course, world record class (check out www.booneandcrockettclub.com)antlers will fetch world record prices. Antlers scoring high in the book will be worth less according to their standings and those that don't make the book will rely heavily on what the market will bear. So if you have a set that scores in the 190's, you're close but no cigar. You can ASK $5 million for them, but that doesn't mean anyone is going to buy them.
Dear Mister weird, your extended knowledge of aphrodisiac and viagra is of no help or interest to me.
.."The buyer will determine the worth and an "appraiser" will only tell you how much he might pay if he wanted to own them."
Where do you get this supposedly very insightful information and how do you know the inside story of that market? Are you a buyer yourself?
By the way, the world class mule deer just sold for 250 000$. That's a lot of viagra.
There are too many factors to make an educated guess. The only thing an appraiser is good for is knowing what other buyers have spent on similar specimans. Most antlers aren't worth squat and even some large racks aren't worth much unless there is a story behind them. That is why the Jordan buck is worth more than the Hanson buck. Can you imagine if the Rompola rack ever surfaced what it would go for? Probably more than any rack out there because it was under so much controversy.
Most racks under 200" won't fetch much, possibly a few hundred dollars for racks in the 180's - 190's, but racks over 200" for typicals and non typicals considerably larger will increase exponentioally.
A 200" 8 pointer is a lot different then a 200" 12 pointer, and some buyers have certain tastes. Some like wide, some like tall, some like a lot of points and some like mass.
There is no blue book because every rack is different and no two are alike so you can't even compare two 10 point racks scoring 200" exactly. Maybe one is tall and one is wide.
