I don't drill or dremmel the lip line. I use a screwdriver to compress the foam. Basically I insert it in the lip line and it compresses the foam. If you use and epoxy, just tuck it and the epoxy sets up before it can pull out. If you use a hide paste that dries in a few hours, pin the lips. Just be careful if you use a screwdriver that you don't break the lip off. I heard it's not fun
You can get by with less. I use a sabersaw blade in a homemade handle to cut the lip slots, fine tooth.
Then lightly sand the slot to make sure its perfectly even.
Use plenty of hide adhesive in the slot, this allows you to taxi it and you can use sewing pins to hold the lip in place as it drys, you will need to watch it once in the AM and once in the PM. make any adjustments.
In a perfect taxidermy world there would be nothing to learn, it would be handed to you on a plate so to speak.
Now if you have doubts over the simplicity of using even 1/8th inch of lip, you can skive a piece of hide to swe onto the remaining lip. you can use quilting thread and a small sewing needle, to do so.
