Eppley Replacement Nose Users

Submitted by Mr.T on 5/15/06 at 6:34 PM. ( ) 64.31.6.30

What is your favorite kind of glue for gluing the nostril skin to the artificial nose? I have tried three different adhesives and still have my reservations on what is the best for the long run. While finishing the nose, I am finding some pull away on a few; I clean the replacement nose with lacquer thinner first before gluing. Any tips or secret glues that will fix this? Please and thank you.
I will reveal the glues I have used after some suggestions come in. One might surprise you that it failed.

Buckeye Supreme

When I use one it is wiped down like you did but I also sand the replacement nose. And I have never had problem with Buckeye Supreme keeping everything in place.

You won't have a problem.

buckeye

I use buckeye 100% of the time, that was one that I used, and it pulled, super glue seemed to work best, but the longevity of it is questionable, and I used Epo-Grip liquid fast set on the last nose, it held well on the practice nose, but didn't hold the nostril skin on the mount. I am thinking the skin was to wet maybe. I think I will try Headlock epoxy next; it seems to work with wet skin. Any other suggestions?

I figured that was what you were going to say you used. Anyways, are sure you didn't tuck too much skin pulling the skin too far up into the nostril ? If you did this and the skin did not line up everywhere on the entire nose, it would cause the skin to pull. Also make sure the skin you tuck just meets up at the seam of the septum. You want the skin to just butt up against the edge of the septum and then there will be just a fine line for finish work. I've never had a problem with using Buckeye Supreme. Of course I use Buckeye Supreme on the entire mount including the earliners and some people don't believe me that it will hold,so I guess you have to use your own judgement.

I cut the nose skin at the hair line, and it falls short of the glue line on the septum, and I like the buckeye on earliners too, they come out thin and crisp, I think the buckeye wicks into the wet skin to help hold, and some epoxys need the skin to be dry and oil free to work. Thanks for the suport.

Key Hide Epox

from Van Dykes. I use this on all the facial area. Skin can be wet or dry, Doesn't matter. What I do is spray the face and entire form with 'DURO spray adhesive' (cheapest found at Wal Mart) after washing entire form with laquer thinner. The rest of the form, I use Derma grip or Buckeye. Key gives you a working time of 4-6 hours minimum. A thin layer is all you need. HAPP

Super glue

I have used super glue, but not until the next day. Regular dextrine hide paste on the whole thing save for inside the nostrils. Position everything, then the next day, remove your nostril "packing", and super glue the edges back in place. the skin is semi dried in the proper postion and will accept the glue better than on day one. Obviously it must fit and you get one good shot at it.

Zap-a-gap gel

works great! I wouldn't be without it. Rough up the artificial nose a little in the area to be glued.
