Saok em up, borax in water if they are just salted
Rinse well after that sew them up if they are cut, no need to if they are socked.Go get Play sand (a lot) dampen it, pack them full, lifting sides as you go and shaping them. Tamp down with baseball bat to pack sand "TIGHT"
or they will shrink up.
Set aside watch for first week re pack if needed, set aside for a month and let dry. Dump out sand blow out residual get some fiberglass resin and cloth line them with it, install some wood blocks at top edge with the fiberglass to attach top later and paint
Done.
You would actually dp an elephant foot? BAD advice! They need to be pickled, and tanned. No telling how many thousands of dollars someone paid to kill that elephant, and you suggest dp? I can see adding a little borax to the pad, because it cant be shaved, but I cant help but think, it wont last long!
any one that would give advice like DP on a $40,000.00 animal ,well let my say I would not want him for a taxidermist. name ( * )
ALWAYS PICKEL < NEUTRALIZE < TAN
Place the foot on a plywood and 2x4 base, and screw from the underside into the foot pad in several place. I use up to dozen sheetrock screws. When the foot dries, the pad if not fastened down can curl. Also the base will help you when moving them around because after packing with sand they will be HEAVY.
