Click the BEGINNERS section in the left margin and then scroll to the bottom. Click on OCT 99 and then scroll down to Oct. 20 where I describe the method the I use. Many not work for you, but it's sure better than paint. BTW, you should've repaired it way before you mounted it, but somehow, I suspect you've already heard that a few times.
As far as dealing with the problem and giving the mount to the customer goes... how did you recieve the deer in question? (frozen fresh ect) and how did it check in during inspection? (any smell, wet or blood soaked ect) that might have everything to do with the problem.
Do you have a customer signed contract that states that you are not responsable for damages such as slipping? That would cover your back side in this case. If so contact the customer and explain the problem and what in your opinion might have caused it then discuss a remedy and the cost. But if you feel you are at fault in any way I would fix it or even replace it at your cost rather than give a screwed up mount to a paying customer as that could really hurt your business.
Hope this helps you out.
If at all possible, find another cape and remount the deer. Sometimes you got to do what ever you can to satisfy the customer. If things go well you will make out in the long run. Word of mouth is your best form of advertisement! One disatisfied customer can destroy your reputation.
