Some advice please. Whenever l remove large sheep horns like Marco-Polos, they shrink that badly in the sheath that to get them back onto the original cores requires l have resorted to cutting downthe bone cores to make them fit again. l have even resorted to rotting off the sheaths in water,no boiling whatsoever,,, yet still encouter the refit problem.
lm reluctant to leave the horns on the cores without cleaning them out first. Thanks in advance

Once I get the cores out of the horns, I immediately wash them off quickly and saw them off so there's the usual stub left. I pour DP down inside the cases and let it slosh around a bit. Then I reinstall the horn casings over the cores. This allows the case to more or less form to the core yet not to the point of locking it on. When it comes time to mount them, I get a pot of boiling water. I dip the case END where that thin horn membrane has managed to shrink into the water for about 5 minutes. I DO NOT TURN IT LOOSE. I've seen them ruined by being forgotten. I take them out and push them down over the core stubs as hard as I can and hold them there until they cool. I do one at a time. When they're cooled, I smear epoxy paste inside the case and over the core stub and set them back in place. I usually pin them on the underside between the ear and the horn to insure they stay aligned though pinning those horns can be nerve racking at times.
