HELP! Antalope hair slipping

Submitted by Jim on 7/1/06 at 8:55 PM. ( ) 65.119.178.181

I need some advice from the experts that do a lot of antalope mounts. I mounted my first antalope and am pretty pleased with the results except the hair seems VERY loose. Is this a normal characteristic of antalope?

A little background on the cape: fleshed and frozen, daughter accidently left freezer door open, hide cool but completly thawed, immediatly pickled, tanned and mounted.

Will the hair set once the mount dries completly? Fortunatly it's not a customer mount but still hate to loose it. Thanks

Very common with antelope!
Don't pull on the hair at all, once it is dry it will tighten up.
The hair is very brittle, even when dry it shouldn't be handled any more than necessary.

dry it out

Probably not an issue this time of year (heat) but get that dude dried out. Keep in a warm, dry place and put a fan on it and keep your hands off it.

My question...why no salt?

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I was on the right track and already had the mount in front of the fan. Just wanted to make sure it was normal for the hair to be loose. I did have the cape salted just forgot to add it in. Thanks again!
