Where to cut with "maned" animals

What's the prefered cut on top of the neck of an animal with medium to long mane, such as Wildebeest/Gemsbuck when caping.
I prefer in the centre, although i bit difficult to sew up, this way the seem is hidden automatically when done. I hear some prefer to cut of centre(next to the mane). Is this to make sewing easier or is there other reason?

I prefer off to the side

African seam repair is just a fact of life. The mane also has deeper and bigger hair roots which make sewing more difficult without whorling the hair patterns. I usually get pronghorns split right down the center, however.

Just a tad to the side

Preferably the side to where the mane falls, so it covers the seam up by laying over it. And, like Geo said, seam repair is part of a taxidermist's life like sewing holes. Better get good at it; you won't be able to get around it completely no matter where you cut and how good you sew.
