Deer head in freezer too long... HELP!

Submitted by Todd K on 8/10/06 at 5:54 PM. ( ) 136.1.1.101

I just recieved a whitetail from Texas. It is not caped out and was frozen since last season. When I opened the box from UPS the ears and the shoulders appear to be dried out and freezer burnt a bit. I am at work now but would like to skin, split, flesh and get salted tonight when I get home. I can forsee a problem opening and getting cartlidge out of ears. Has anyone ran into this before or have any ideas to rehydrate these areas? Ive never sent a cape to tannery without splitting ears and salting. I dont want any slipping problems. Any ideas or suggestions would help.
Thanks

Borax Water

Just add Borax to water, just add until it won't disolve anymore. Inject this in the dehydrated areas, skin right away, injecting as you go. Works great.

Stop Rot definetly. if it hasn't thawed yet I would put back in freezer until I had some. I just went through this and that stuff is amazing.

Good Luck
