Cracked Hide

Ok this is what I got. I have a bull shoulder mount repair job from a restaurant. The mount is about 11 years old. There is a crack under the jaw causing a piece of the chin to hang down. Plus there are about three other places on each side of the shoulder that have small cracks (1-2inches long). I don't have it at the shop yet but I did get a look at it while I was there, and it looked like it was a tanned hide. I was wondering what you all would recommend as far a how to repair it. I was thinking of rehydrating and stitching it back up, but I hear that it could make it fall apart worse because the hide is breaking down from acids. Is that what you think it is because I have never seen it but would hate to find out that's what it is and make matters worse. And if it is that should I try glueing it or is there a better way to get the job done. Thank you for your time... Tony

if it's tanned it's a terrible job, probably DP , get a new cape and then probably a new form ,and then remount it

I dealt with this kind of repair work ,I use apoxie sculpt ,Start by cleaning around the cracks and very carefully lift up the skin and put some apoxie sculpt under the skin and press the skin into it.then texture any sculpt that's between the cracks with a pc of felt, sometimes it helps to dig a little of the form out under the crack so it grabs and holds the skin in place. If the skin doesn't stick to the apoxie try wetting it a little .Id charge no less than $150.00 for this repair.

I didn't think of that
