Stump Question

Submitted by Jack on 11/8/99. ( )

Mounting a bobcat with front legs on a stump. My question is if I use a real stump, will it dry out while in the house and have the bark fall off. If so is there something to put on it to keep it from doing so. This might not even be a problem but just want to make sure. Thanks

Stump question

Worry about the possibility of bugs in the stump more then the bark. Bark will loosen up inside just as it would outside. If its your mount, you can hot glue the bark back on...if it's a customer's you may want to do something different.

Dave hit the nail right on the head. Why even use a stump with bark. I use pine heartwood, cypress knees and knots, and both red and white cedar for my stumps. Repro stumps can be made easily from either cork bark or birch bark attached to a plaster, plastic, or mache stump center.
