Different trees and also the part of the tree, yield wood requireing a variety of methods. In general fresh cut wood must be seasoned. Drying too fast sometimes splits wood. Drying too slow will rot some woods. There are many trees. Some are easy to dry. Some will take many months. Soaking in auto antifreeze keeps some slabs from splitting. There are several books on this. The one I learned alot from was "Understanding Wood" by R. Bruce Hoadley. There are other books available. Hopefully you'll get more info here on the forum.
