Base Angles

I was wondering if anyone knew where i could find a chart/cheat sheet, with all the angles for octagons, and simular shape bases.Just trying to save myself some time in the shop experimenting all day trying to get the right angles, thanks Chase

a square base has 90 degree angles, so you cut a 45, an octagon would be half of that, a 22 1/2 degree angle, so on and so forth.

all angles together total 360 no matter what

of all your "standard" angles so you don't have to figure it out every time...

I took geometry twice in high school, I can help with this!

What Adam said is correct. The sum of the angles in a geometrical shape, triangle 3 sides, square or rectangle 4 sides , pentagon 5 sides, hexagon 6 sides, heptagon 7 sides, octagon 8 sides, etc, equals 360 degrees. Example: 6 sided hexagon: Divide 360/6=60degrees. It takes two 30 degree angles to make a 60 angle, so you miter on 30 degrees.

saws are calibrated so that 0 degrees is really 90 deg to the material so you have to figure your angle backwards from a 90. So for your hex you need to set it on 60 to make a 30. Confused yet?

Not to be smart but I took trigI and trigII in college and the sum of the angles of a triangle equal 180 degrees not 360. Just didn't want Chase to get confused.

Thank you, I guess I should have tried using some of those math skills they taught me in high school. Its funny how many times we take the easy way out and try finding a calculator, instead of just thinking. Thanks Again Chase
