I am doingan attack scene mount and need to use minnows. I was looking around and noticed they are like $5.00 a piece! Is there a way to just buy some minnows and mount them yourself or what do you suggest?

Thanks a lot guys!

the customers paying?

if this is for your walleye/crapie mount, the customers paying right? Or did you just give him the mounted fish price? If he wants minnows, ask him how many he wants to buy?

Yes

Yes it is for the crappie/walleye mount. I gave him a price for the fish. And he said that's about the most he wants to spend so what should I do?

I have heard from other taxidermists that buy like golden shiners and mount them with filler?

I'd purchase or catch a baitfish of choice and mold the fish. If you do this correctly you can pour it in a urethane and bend it into as many poses as needed. I am sure the archives has a great deal of info on this subject.

Cool

Casting my own.

Hindsight being 20-20 you should have already prepared for a price quote at the time your customer brought in the work. $5 bucks apiece (I'm guessing un-painted?) times (maybe) 7 minnows = $35 bucks. Add in painting time for the 7 ($50 bucks?) and there's your quote. $35 bucks or $85 bucks for 7 minnows on top of the cost of the two mounts has got to be a very small percentage of the overall price. If you originally agreed to do the minnows and never mentioned a price, I'd have to say it's time to eat those costs. (Again), you should've brought this up BEFORE your customer signed on the dotted line. If you left things open ended, I'd call your customer and quote him/her the added (minimal) costs...

Thanks
