Pine Bark...

I have a friend that is working for a lodge/ guide service and they are building a new log cabin/ guest quarter. Anyhow he calls me about using real pine trees for the window frames and wants to know how to preserve the trees so that the bark will stay. Any proven ideas? I have preserved small cedar trees but I've never tried it with split pine pieces. Thanks in advance!

Tell him to forget it

That's the worlds best way of inviting termites to dinner. The bark is an insulator and actually, distasteful to termite. It does, however, provide a conduit for them to travel under and eat away at the log underneath. It also harbors pine borers and weevils. That's the reason all log cabins made of pine or fur are "scabbed" off.

Thanks George

I really didn't think that it would be a good idea. Thanks again
