I'm trying out mounting a severed deer leg to put on a base with a full mount bear. I have the bone cleaned and wired back together. I wanted to maybe sculpt in some of the muscles and tendons to look like it was a fresh kill. Anyone have any suggestions on some methods to do this, how to paint it and materials to use? Any input would help.

Neat idea, I saw a picture of a coyote carrying a deer leg in a snow scene one time and thought it would make a sweet mount. I think I would use some type of sculpting epoxy like sculpt all or other type of epoxy. A frozen deer leg, skinned like when you butcher could be used for reference on the muscles while sculpting. As far as coloring, I'd just keep blending various colors until I had the color right for the raw meat, once again using the frozen leg for a color reference. I think the frozen leg would'nt have the exact color of fresh meat, but the bear could be scavegeing on a carcass, so who is to say exactly what stage of decomposition the carcass was in. Alittle experimenting could lead to a very believable leg. I have never done this, but just wanted to say cool idea! Have fun, and good luck with the leg. Shannon
skin the leg out, then cast it, with all muscle detail, make a copy, throw your skinned leg over the painted cast and call it a day? as for color's i'm no expert, but try variations of red, mixed with say hookers green etc, maybe even a thinned down mix of Mohr flesh.
