I just started doing taxidermy work, but how do I attach my bird to my foam base? The base is about 8 inches high, a formed rock, andthe wires from my bird's feet are only about 4 inches long.

Here's what I'd do

The best way to proceed IMO is to mount the bird on a smaller rock!LOL.

If you must mount it on that base, there are 2 ways to proceed as I see it. The easiest (but not best) is the form the leg wires into a loop and cut a slot in the base. Put some apoxie sculpt on the bottom of the birds foot and fill the hole with Por-A-Kast and push the loop down into the hole. The apoxie will help adhere the webs to the base.

The best way would be to make a smaller rock that has a wood bottom. Mount the bird on it. Cut out a section in the original base to fit the new base into. Use 2part foam to fill the gaps and texture the transition. Paint/stain the base to your liking.
