You may want to give this some thought

Submitted by Bill Yox on 1/9/01. ( )

As many of us in here are in the throes of this newest NTA debate, I wanted to make a point. Im definitely not for this mandatory affiliation, and Ive been very vocal about it. But I had been noticing a feeling like a witch hunt starting to develop the last day or so. Some of you might feel that Im just as much a part of that, too. Thats your call, I dont feel that way, at least not inside my thick skull, anyway. But I did want to put a post in here saying that regardless of our views and opinions on this issue, the NTA is STILL people. There are individuals that are the NTA. When we address the NTA, that sometimes reflects on those who are the NTA, like officers, etc. With that thought in mind, let me tell you a quick story. Remember when we were beating up that guy mike, with the multiple personalities, when Ken put that great post in that showed us all what mike was really doing? Well, I had made the request for someone who had a printer to please print that for me. Now, I post a ton of stuff in here. I give alot of answers here that I could hold back and say, "screw, Im not telling these guys, I can get paid for this through my workshops". Of course, those who know me know I wouldnt, I like to help out. Plus, lets face it, nobody is putting a gun to my head for answers here. Sometimes a fellow will accuse me of holding back, but thats a whole 'nother story. Well, do you know that not ONE person here sent me a copy of that post, even though I try to help all here? Now, Im not whining, so please, stay with me here. Now get this. I get a good sized envelope in the mail today from NTA headquarters. Know whats in it? Yep, 18 pages of that post I had asked for. Think about that. I am NOT bitching that nobody sent it to me, or that I give answers for no compensation. Thats not what I want to say at ALL. Of all the folks to send it, the NTA did. The group I have been very critical of here lately. They had the time or thought, to send me that darned post, because I dont have a printer, or the brains to use one. Do you all get that? The NTA is a group of people. Nice people. Im still not for the above mentioned proposal, but Im going to be a bit more careful about how I address the NTA as a group. Did I get through to anyone? I sure hope I did. This envelope today got through to me, to be sure. Sometimes its nice to be humbled by a friend...

I did blow up on the issue myself and I am a member. I just get tired of all the fighint back and forth.
I do feel that 100% affiliation may be the end of the NTA because as you said the NTA is not single entity it is a group of people and though it would change things we can all go on without any org including the NTA but it won't be with out us.
I just think its a natural reaction for anyone when something is no longer a choice and an altimatem is thrown in.
A lot of us are not in the NTA or our state afiliation for competition and I think when state afiliates start saying we need 100% afiliation we will lose many at both the NTA and state levels.
We should first strive to get our state groups built up to a 70% or higher afiliation before demanding the few we do have also join another group.
Just a thought, I will just sit back and see what happens and decide where I will go next...Maybe to Bill's house for a beer.

Sorry Bill..........................

I have only been loosly folowing this debate here, but still do not have enough information to even form an opinion. I say this because I personally would like to see a post from the NTA outlining their intentions and reasons for this mandatory membership. I'm still fairly new to this as I am about to renew my membership to my state association for only the third time. I do like to compete, even though I still could without a membership, but mostly I like knowing there is someone out there looking out for me and that can give support if I need it.
I really don't know what the NTA is all about or what they're up to, so I would welcome an email from them explaining this or maybe they could do a post here to clear air for all the oposition.
Thanks Bill and all the big brothers here whose opinions are well respected.

I'm Surprised

I must admit, I purposely didn't send you a copy of that post because
I thought you would get lambasted with copies to the point your mail
man would throw his back out delivering them.

MARK- check the archives... Mike Kirkhart and other board members HAVE
commented on 100% affiliation, but fair warning- its a lot of reading-
I believe there is well over 100K of information in the archives

Man, this one's a dinger!

First of all to Bill. Thanks for your above opinion! It was well stated and brings a differen't view to the whole thing for some people.

I am from Utah, I was talking with our association president the other day and this NTA 100% issue came up. He is concerned that our association membership would drop from from 30% to about 5% if we required everyone to be an NTA memeber. I told him that I didn't know much about the NTA or what it could do for us. He was happy to tell me about a few things. It seems to me that if there is a group, or organization out there that can benifit me and I don't make an effort to find out about it then it's my loss. On the other hand, if someone tells me that I have to join their group, I would expect them to have enough information to at least try to sell me on the plan. I think this huge debate could be taken care of if the NTA would provide each memeber of each state association with the information about the NTA and the reasoning behind this idea. I know that this would be a large cost to them in time and money. But just do the math and figure out how much money and man power it would bring if they did this and were able to add even 30% of the taxidermists from each state.

Cheer to all, Keep up the good work!

awww man...

Of course I was just using my angle as a vehicle to illustrate my thoughts. Please, no apologies needed! I enjoy YOU guys way more than you do me, trust that! Now, about those printers...Anywho, I hope the human side of the NTA issue is noted.

The NTA helped support the "Make a Wish" foundation and now is supporting the Mandrell Celebrity Shoot. Is that worth 50 bucks a year.... I say so because it us in a good light out in the public's view. Just another point to consider in this never ending...... heck I don't even know what to call it :-)
