Taxidermist stop the B S about commercial work!

Submitted by Bill P on 05/24/2004 at 00:40. ( ) 64.12.116.209

Most of you are still "full of yourself" by trying to say that the same amount of "quality" goes in to a commercial piece, but, there are NOT enough hours in the year or two years to do all of the work that a busy taxidermist "says" he/she has.

simply cut the Bull Sh*t and face the FACTS that many of you mis state and LIE about the quality of work turned out to your everyday customers...

(posted twice just to tick off CB and GR....Thanks!

or you have difficulty doing well in competitions. You're not worth responding to. I won't waste my time anymore. I hope everyone else does the same. Do you have any idea what a fool you appear to be?

why shouldn't

there be the same quality?

If you're prices are set where they should be, your time should be compensated for. Not everyone wants to pay the price for qaulity, but the few that do make up for the dozen that don't.

I don't see the problem

It doesn't take any longer

I think there Is a lot of taxidermists that put out great quality because they have to..to keep getting business

If your usual work is exactly the same quality as

your competition work than

A.) The shows you go to have low standards.

B.) You are gettting a hell of a lot of money for you mounts i.e. over $25.00 and inch for fish, over $1000.00 for deer shoulder mounts

or

C.) You have never competed or have a grudge against those that do well in competitions vs. your own lack of success.

My commercial fish work is high quality and I would put it up against anyone's commercial fish work, but more detail is required at the competition level, and most of my customers would not pay the price required to justify the time. I'd have to charge at least twice my $11.00 per inch rate.

So who's kidding who here?

Hummmmmmmmm

And this is just a consideration of views from both sides.
Yes it is true that many taxidermists, including myself cannot afford to engage the real time to give to a client a competition quality mount at commercial rates , simply because many clients begrudge paying the 200 dollars Aussie, (about 140 USD) for a duck mount.

Now if my clients want to pay me what l think it should be worth to give them a blue ribbon competition piece ( masters level) and considering that some popular flat artists work l know start at 10 grand a piece, (and they are presold simply when the person mutters ,,l think would like to paint a.....), then perhaps 3000 a bird would be a good starting price.
Now If you paid 3 grand for your bird, and perhaps 4- for your game head with the taxidermists you claim to have engaged, and are still not happy, then yes you have a case to stand on.
If you paid commercial rates, and received commercial work, you got what you paid for, no one has ripped you off and and no one has mislead you by showing what is possible for them to produce, provided you pay the fee.
l would suggest next time you have a piece to have done, please contact the likes of Frank Newmyer,Ken walker, Zimmermans or the Boyce Studio, and simply say money is not a issue , do the best that you are humanly capable of, and l will pay you in advance what you think it is worth for this project,,and heres an extra 50 % so you dont sell yourself short of time.
Get back to us then with your comments about the industry.

There is an old saying

There is an old saying: If you argue with a fool you become a fool.
There are some verses in the bible on judging others and how we will be judged by God like we judge others here on earth. I supose we all should think of that before we start bashing each other. Just a thought.

Out of respect for the "truthful" points made in your post. I will be silent. If only more would take your lead!

Thank you Roy.
