OK, Here is a little information so that some of you can do research and reading to get the actual facts.
Textbook publishers are not responsible for the content of their publications. If I want to publish a history book, by whatever means, that will be used in public schools as a teaching tool, it DOES NOT have to be accurate. They are not regulated to that affect.
I did find this on the net, long time ago. So! I can write a book and say that Custar was a hero, not. That Chief Joseph was one of the most stupid Indians in history,NOT! That Abraham Lincoln was a cross-dresser that loved ruby red lipstick and matching shoes!not sure on that one. Michael Jackson has NEVER had any kind of cosmetic surgery! That umbrella they keep over his head is why he is fading!
But! if you want to find out the truth about all of these things, you read older published books, or better yet, you go to archives and read the "actual" manuscripts from all of the events you are talking about.
My sister pointed me to the one at Cornell, about the Civil War. It contained actual letters and orders, back and forth between generals, home, etc. It was quite comical, also.
YANKEE soldiers crying about their feet being sore from so much walking, "Daddy! Please buy a replacement for me!"
REBEL officer, "took his whole family and servants with him to the battle field", so HE could be responsible for their safety.
And I also found in there, the Dept. of Indian Affairs, but did not get to explore into that part at the time and even had to quit the Civil War part as time got slack.
I like to get facts from the horses mouth, so I look for the facts from different sources, that is one of the things I love about the net. Don't take the word of someone else, when you can find the written facts to view.
George's post did go off in all directions, but I still loved the read. And then, a lot of posts end up 100 miles down the road from where they start.
Another note, George, INDIANS can be BLONDE, BLUE EYED, and FAIR skinned. I have seen it and it happens when 2 very dominant genes go haywire with each other. I know 2 that are, one is 1/4 and one is ?, mother is white and father is son of a 3/4. So what ever that would make him. But they both had all the facial features of Indian.
And George, go ahead and start any more ethnic posts you want before the World Show, I'll check the tent between times to make sure you don't hang for long! Better yet, keep a knife strategically located! Maybe even a pair of BOLT cutters! lol
