Just a point of fact. The Pope was a good man. He was a leader of the Catholic religion. But he was still only a man. To call him or anyone else "the Holy Father" is a sin against the almighty GOD. ONLY Almighty GOD should be called the Holy Father.
Not wanting to start a fight just want to lay down some facts.

I agree.
He was a great guy, I never really paid any attention to what good things he did for our world until I started reading about him; I guess good people sometimes go un-noticed. May he rest in Peace
Popes may deserve respect, but never worship.
...the "pope-mobile" is up for sale on Ebay!
Your concepts on what constitutes holiness is beyond explaining it here like this. When we as catholics address or refer to our pope John Paul II as The Holy Father, the term is not used literally in competition with God. In most religions, when a man and woman stand in a church, temple or where ever to baptize a baby, they too are given the term as God Parents,God Mother and God Father. There is no symbol of greater respect than these titles, espeacilly in an Italian family. Does that also mean these people are put on the same pedestal as we revere God? Are we in sin when we address our God Parents as such? Of course not. In my home, the younger crowd still kisses the hand of the God Fathers who attend any family occasion as a sign of respect and affection. That's all. We don't expect anyone else to display these same tokens towards our God Fathers anymore than we as catholics would expect anyone outside our faith to acknowledge our Pope in similar fashions. To us catholics, the pope is the Vicar of Christ on earth. Yes,he was just a man. So was Peter yet Christ still intrusted him with the keys to the Kingdom. Sin is not calculated by God as are parking or driving offenses on the back of a ticket. If it was like that and we go to our deaths with the "sin" of calling a pope our Holy Father, somehow I don't think it would have the same fines as Christians get who have no compassion for each other.
Catholics do NOT worship the Pope, or Mary or the Saints or statues or anyone or anything but GOD ALONE. NEVER have, NEVER will. Sorry you misunderstand the faith and doctrines of the church. If you or anyone is interested in exactly what the Church teaches and why, etc. you can easily go to www.CatholicBridge.com and all these misunderstandings and issues are explained in easy to read and layed out in a simple format with the bible as the main reference and lots of links. Your'e statements are only as valid as your knowledge; so check it out and be informed before stating falsehoods as facts again "please and thank you"
Not everyone will understand the "easy" things about GOD. You want to bring about confusion and trouble. You want to "read in more" than what was said. Perhaps people LIKE YOU are the reasons the "church" has so many problems.
It is amazing how many people (JIM) do not understand what they read (JIM). Never said anything about worship. Sorry you (JIM) lack the abilities to understand the SIMPLE statements in the first post.
A Catholic
Sorry, I was posting in general, and if you notice KB did say worship. Please check out the web site I posted and you will see where you are wrong about the title HOLY father title the pope has. I mean well. God bless you. PS David McDonald's music (its his site) is also really good.
Ok, I admit to knowing nothing about Catholic religon.
Why do some pray to Mary?
Why do some ask certian Saints for favors?
Having traveled Europe, I have seen many Cathedrals guilded in gold, some of the most ornate buildings you can imagine.
Others are not as fancy but each has many Bishops and other important religous leaders entombed in them, with very life like carvings in stone on top of the vault.
Many of the builidings are gaurded by Gargoyles, you can even see demonic impressions in the staine glass.
Can you please explain why these things occur?
...prescribed by Christ when He told the Apostles "Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you shall retain will be retained." In order to forgive one must confess. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is extremely important to a practicing catholic and worthless to anyone who doesn't believe in its precepts. The Gothic designs of Old World archetecture is just that and has no signifcant value to our spirituality. Praying to saints is asking them to intercede on our behalf to God. Not unlike paying an attorney to intercede for us to the man on the bench. It comes down to faith and believing what you were taught. If your religion works for you, than it does what it's suppose to. Why pick arguments over it?
Damn, I make one statement to clarify some misinformation about the Pope and look at the people that want to spar.
So many things are taken out of context and are TWISTED AND people don't want to listen that, it WILL be a BLESSING to see ARMAGEDDON take place on this planet.
you seem to be the one that "does" want to start a fight" Unlike you first posted. You are the one that said you were a Catholic and now say you are not, and the one with false facts, except that the pope is only a good man and leader of the Catholic church, thats a no brainer; You just misundersatnd the teaching on the title he has, I pointed you to a non threating, friendly explanation. You seem bitter and upset? Chill out, stop calling names and pray for us all and we will pray for you. I for one will. JJ is right on; if your religion works for you, then it does what its supposed to do. Don't make that a bad thing. Please be happy and positive about what you believe. Thats what we should all want to do. As far as what this has to do with taxidermy (before someone asks), all of us artists and craftspersons can take this qoute to heart: "Where the holy spirit does not work with the hand there is no art" - Leonardo da Vinci
So, you read and understand ONLY what you want, huh? Typical! Go in peace.
?. I will try and just smile. Go in peace to you also.
