My son's elk

Got back a couple of weeks ago from my 13 year old sons youth elk hunt. We did it on our own. He got a nice 6x6 with 10 minutes to go in the season. He passed up a couple small bulls early in the hunt. He also passed a poor shot opportunity on the same bull he got, earlier the same day. I tried to let him call the shots as much as I could - told him I was darn proud he didn't take the iffy shot. He was rewarded for it.

It is amazing what a trip like this does for a father/son relationship!

Float trip

My wife, 2 buddies and I drove the "Haul Road" almost to Prudhoe Bay. Took an airboat 48 miles up the Ivashak River and got dropped off with 2 rafts. Caught some nice Arctic Char & grayling. Killed 4 caribou. My wife shot her 1st one. My goal was to shoot one with my handgun, which I accomplished. 2 nice wall hangers. No ptarmigan. Bummer, since we had about 250 rounds of trap loads with us. Floated back out. Drove on up to Deadhorse(Prudhoe Bay) just to complete the drive and eat in a restaurant. Only 1 shredded tire and 1 broken window in the camper for a 1,700 mile drive. I think I'll do it again next year. I'm sure glad the wife likes doing this stuff!
