I drew an Oryx tag in New Mexico for the Jan 20, 2006 hunt on the Stallon range. Has anyone hunted this range? Any advice that may help me on the hunt?

Wow! Your a lucky dude. Use a weapone 30-06 or larger with at least a 180 grain bullet. Stallion Range is pretty flat and open. When you get on the animal it is important to get off a fairly quick shot as the Oryx are smart and won't stand around to let you have a second chance. Be sure to aim about 4 inches above where the racing stripe meets the front leg. A well places shot will take one down quickly but if you wound one they can run forever. When you get the animal down you are in for a lot of fun, gutting the Oryx. Their innards are suspended from their backbone,so you have to reach under their paunch and cut the ligament loose that holds their guts in suspension. Oryx meat is the very best-better than any wild-game you have ever eaten. Good Luck!

Don't look now, but I think you missed your hunt. January 20, 2006?
