Question about Velvet bucks

Submitted by Mark on 8/16/06 at 3:56 PM. ( ) 4.229.238.126

I just received a big buck in velvet from a game farm where it apparantely died of a heart attack. The velvet is not going to make it completely, but I would like to have it preserved with the shredded velvet hanging off for possible competition. To do this, should I shred some of it off and have it freeze-dried then or should I strip it all off and re-attach some of it? Thanks for any input.

1. Remove antlers as is. Spray with Stop Rot or Stop Slip and preserve the normal way if possible to inject, DP etc..

2. Place in freeze dryer if desired.

3. OR Strip off everything and get it redone at one of the supply companies or other people that do this. Will cost $$$.

NEVER strip off and expect to reattach and look normal without a big if not impossible pain in the rear...
