Not drawn again! One of my best customers was drawn for an at large bull tag. I called her this AM and she was pretty excited about the draw. I asked if she needed a good elk taxidermist, I would help her find one.
Congrats on your daughter being drawn.
I have donated $10 every year since it started. I was dreaming about this being my year. Oh well, I live just outside the elk zone. I might get a chance at one during the deer season. People see them all the time here in Wolfe County, its all hush-hush when someone sees one though. Maybee next year?
If ya need a taxidermist, I am here in Campton. I am in the book. If you are a taxidermist, then maybee I could talk you into joining the Kentucky Taxidermy Assoc. lol

Care to tell me why I should consider the KTA? Every year I get a notice from them about the state convention and so far I haven't seen anything they have to offer that would even convince me to make a 40 mile drive to Barkley, much less Lake Cumberland.
I don't compete and when I go to the NTA or WTC I know there will be useful seminars and lots of vendors that have the latest in taxidermy supplies. KTA might have a seminar or two and a couple of regional vendors. Not interested in paying the yearly fee to attend if I'm not leaving knowing more that I did when I got there.
I have no qualms about joining if you can show me where my $$ is benefiting me and my business. It looks like the NTA is getting their act back together and I plan on rejoining them soon.

Every taxidermist in Kentucky has benefitted from the Kentucky Taxidermy Association wether they are a member or not. It was the KTA that changed the laws concerning taxidermy in Kentucky. If you have ever sold a deer head or purchased a cape to replace one that was bad or bought or sold any form of wildlife in Kentucky then you have benefitted from the KTA. In addition, the KTA is responsible for giving me the insight and knowledge to build the business that I have today. I've never been to a convention and not learned "something" that has helped make me money. And that is not just the KTA but any state convention. As far as vendors, we had McKenzie there last year and they plan on coming back next year along with Dixieland and several other suppliers. Mr. Wynn do you have a website? I would like to look and see the quality of work that you do that would precipitate comments that we need to show you that you will benefit from coming to the show. Only someone that produces the highest quality work could even make such a statement and think that attending a show may not be beneficial. Awaiting your reply.
My intention was not to start a pissing contest about my or anyone elses work. I will never be so arrogant as to think that I produce work that cannot be improved on. Yes, I do have a web site that is not the least bit hard to find. It is listed in the state listings here. You will not find work there that is in the class of those whom I have learned from at the NTA or WTC, yourself included Harry. As a new businessman, I try to spend my training dollar where I get the most value. To me that has been the national shows. My goal is to learn all I can and take that back to improve my work and the profitability of my business. I'm glad that I can benefit from past work of the KTA as do all other taxidermists in KY. My inquiry was not intended to be ill intent. It was just to ask what benefits could be expected--you have listed some. I just don't see a lot of information out there other than what is sent each year about the convention. I am a member of the PA Taxidermy Association since I had registered to attend their convention but couldn't due to pneumonia. Their list of seminar presenters rivaled the NTA, which has been held much too far away the last two years for me to attend. You can bet I will be in Louisville next year. I have no intent to be perceived as a smart-ass troublemaker. I come to this site to gather a wealth of information that I use every day and possibly to help someone who might be experiencing problems that I have some experience in. I also want to get the most for my money. If the KTA is that place, I will be glad to join. I was just asking why I should consider it.
If you want a big show like PA. Join us and work with us, to build up the KTA. One big plus to the KTA is the friends you make. If you have a disaster hit your home, The members of the KTA will be there for you! I could give some examples, but I don't want to pin-point any person. If I ever need anything, I have a big family I can call on. Not to mention, the fun you will have. Its like a weekend get away. If you are on a tight budget, $400 will get you through the weekend. I would spend more than that on a weekend get away, anyway.
You already have your mind made up, but I will say this, "Best move I ever made!"

The last 3 years I have hauled mounts 5 1/2 hours to Barkley, just comenting on your post again. Take what Harry said, and what I said, and give it a think, we would love to have ya!

Sorry if I came off as a little brash. It's just that I have worked countless hours and spent many $$$$ to help the KTA and it's members. Any associations convention is worth going to because you learn something at all of them. You keep mentioning all of the seminars at the WTC and NTA and those shows are great but you can only go to so many seminars at any one of those shows. While there is not the diversity at a state show there are certainly informative seminars and you can attend every one of them. Cost wise you're less than an hour away and the membership and convention rates are far less than that of the big shows. Sounds like a value to me! Hope to see you at Lake Cumberland next August.
Thanks to Harry and Tony for answering some questions for me. If Tony can send me some info I will look it over and probably include a check in my return mail.Lord knows I could use a break from the shop every now and then.
You info. will be in thae mail shortly, check you email.
Thanks,
