I have been approached by a guy here in Australia with a Kodiak bear floor rug (with mounted head) for sale. As yet I haven't seen the skin but it has been just imported here from Alaska, so has got Cities permits etc with it.
It is claimed that the bear was a world record female bear shot in Alaska and has a skull size of 27 in, a weight of 1600 lbs and the length of fur is 4 - 5 inches long. He says that the last one was shot in 1933 with a skull of 24 inches in length.
Could anyone tell me if this sounds right and where I could find out any more info to see if this is right. Also what would be a price to work on, to buy this animal. Any one with any ideas ?
Boone and Crocket min is 28 in.. Makes no difference if it's a male or female. The world record is 31 something. If it is a female it is a very, very large one. There really isn't a way to record the weights of the big bears because they are to big to move. It's all up to the guide's guess, bigger the bear bigger the tip. I would measure the length of the skin, the tape doesn't lie. Sounds like a spring bear by the hair length. Hope this helps.
Many thanks for that. Very greatful. Lyn
