Gidday all
I have recieved a bear in L/S wet tanned in lutan f doing the head wet is no problem but what do i do with the body so it dosent dry hard do i oil it again and break it or is there other methods any input would be great thanks.
First off I wouldn't have a rug wet tan. It needs to be tumbled to get soft but any way. Mount the bear head up, reoil the hide and stretch it on the frame. Let this dry out, depending on things it just may be soft enough for you to use as a rug. If not you will have to break the skin over a blunt edge. You sure are asking for a lot of work.
Personally the rug should be fine after it dries, but who knows. You will when it dries out. Next time let the tannery know it's for a rug, they do things differently for rugs.
PS again forget a wet tan when doing BEAR rugs by yourself.
Frank is writ, but if your a tight ass like me I tan everything myself
. Oil twice and break after you stretch. I like a little stiffer hide for rugs anyway. if it was a good tan the difference between you oiling a wet tan and just wetting a factory tan for stretching is about the same.
