Mounting a Squirrel

Submitted by bojack on 1/10/02. ( ) 204.180.113.61

I'm getting ready to mount a squirrel for a young boy. I've heard of mounting squirrel using the real head (skull). What is the proper way of doing this, and is it really worth the trouble.
Thanks,
Dannon

Hi bojack, If you are going to wrap your own body, then use the skull. Make sure it is cleaned out good and use borax on it. You can fill in with clay the muscle features that you removed or apoxie-sculpt.
The forms on the market now a days are really good and I would recommend using those instead because it does simplify the mounting process and you can get good results without a lot of experience. Also make sure you have good reference material. Good luck.

Yes its worth it

I've mounted 2 squirrels so far. Make good measurements and
use a form. Buy the kit from WASCO. I can't believe the mount
turned out so well.
