Washing coyote before fleshing

Submitted by Joey Font on 1/12/02. ( ) 209.161.81.226

I have a coyote that should be thawed enough to skin this evening. Would it be alright to wash the skin before I flesh it? There are a couple big spots of blood and other areas that are quite dirty. I was thinking of washing in soap and cold water with basacryl. I would then get as much water out of the hide as possible and blow dry the hair before I start fleshing. I don't like the idea of fleshing the dirty hide and getting blood and dirt on the clean areas during the fleshing process. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Why bother, it'll all come out in the wash later. As for basacryl, I'm not so sure of that stuff. I lost a fox and a bobcat using it. I'm not saying it caused it, but I haven't had the problems before or after. I've asked for an MSDS and I've heard other folks with similar problems using it.
